Project Management Institute (PMI), announced that all its certification exams will be moved to Pearson VUE starting July 2019. This is a renowned global exam platform. Prometric was the PMI’s exam provider until now. PMI claims that this platform shift will make the exam experience better for exam takers.
Announcement on PMI
All certification exams of PMI (except China) will be administered by Pearson VUE globally, according to an announcement. We can infer some insights from recent Prometric challenges, even though they didn’t specify the reasons for the change.
Prometric was established in 2007 as an independent subsidiary of Educational Testing Service (ETS). It was a Thomson Corporation subsidiary. Prometric has faced many challenges despite its vast network of test centers, data management capabilities, and other resources. Most of these problems were encountered during exams. Moreover, there’s been a few cases of latency issues in many of Prometric-administered exams in recent times.
Many software companies, including Microsoft, ended their Prometric partnership during this period and switched to Pearson VUE. PMI is the last on that list.
How will Exam Takers be affected by the Announcement?
PMI states that exam takers will be the ones who are most benefited by this replacement. Pearson VUE exam takers can enjoy the following benefits.
More Test Sites
Pearson VUE has over 5000 test locations in more than 160 countries, while Prometric has approximately 3000 test centers around the world. Pearson VUE can make it easier to find a test center, even though it isn’t a significant difference.
Convenience of home delivery
With Pearson VUE, PMI-ACP (r) and CAPM (r) exams can now both be proctored online. These exams can be taken from anywhere you like, including your office or home. Online proctoring is not available for any other PMI certifications.
Global U.S. Federal and Military On-Base Test Centre Network
Pearson VUE provides flexibility to US military personnel by offering a global U.S. Federal on-base test center network that allows service members and government to test their abilities wherever they are deployed.
Are you planning to take an exam before or on the 30th of June 2019?
If you have a plan to take the exam before 2019, you can still register at Prometric. You must schedule your exam prior to 2019-04-19.
Are you planning to take an exam after 01/07/2019?
Pearson VUE will be your exam provider if you plan to take the exam after 2019-07-01. You won’t be able schedule your exams for this reason until 2019-04-19. Register candidates will be able to receive exam information from Pearson VUE on this date so they can schedule their exam for a time after 2019-07-01.
The Takeaway
Simply put, PMI will automatically direct its candidates to any test vendor based on the timeframe that the candidates choose to take the exam.
Candidates who have not yet scheduled their exams need to be aware of important dates regarding the transition timeframe for PMI certifications. Candidates who have already scheduled their exams are not affected by these dates. These dates are
